In his hayday, he was a lean and strong tom with sharp claws, but now his body has begun to age (and not so gracefully...) He's skinny and has trouble keeping his weight on. HISTORY kithood Brownclaw and Littlepool delivered a bundle of four kits for RiverClan. Mudkit was the first born, a dark brown tabby tom with a quiet disposition. Swiftkit, a little tabby she-kit, came next, and then, Thornkit, a large and loud she-kit, followed by Specklekit, another tom. It was an evenly balanced litter, and the clan couldn't have been more thrilled. Mudkit enjoyed having so many siblings to play with. He was never leader of the pack--that was Thornkit--but he was her close right-hand man. Unfortunately, Mudkit would be the only one of the litter to make it past apprenticehood. No one knew, but Swiftkit was born with a heart defect. Her poor heart couldn't handle high cardio. During one play fight session, she passed out, but the medicine cat dismissed it as exhaustion and malnutrition and order her some rest and more food. It seemed to work, because she recovered, but it wasn't a fix. The next time they roughhoused, it got her. No one could figure out why a perfectly healthy kit's heart would stop in the middle of wrestling. The rest of them made it safely to apprentices. apprenticehood Mudkit became Mudpaw, but he wasn't originally a medicine cat apprentice. He and his siblings trained under warriors, and each was as eager as the next to be a fighting machine. Mudpaw was empowered by his training, and he was clearly the best warrior of his litter. He took his training seriously and showed a real knack for fighting. Thornkit was still her rambunctious, bossy self though, and she was always determined to show up her brother. The sibling rivalry really became intense. One day, though, a battle broke out between ShadowClan and RiverClan. When the deputy called out for volunteers to go into battle, Thornpaw eagerly stepped up--and naturally, her two siblings followed. They were older apprentices at this time and good enough to be useful in battle. Useful they were, but still not bulletproof. Thornpaw was killed in battle, and Specklepaw was injured so badly that he didn't survive for very long afterward. Mudpaw was the only cat left of his litter at the end of the day. warriorhood (...warriordom?) Mudpaw's braveness in battle earned him his warrior name quickly, and he became Mudfur. As an older apprentice, he had formed a friendship with a young warrior named Brightsky, and now that he no longer had his siblings, Mudfur found himself spending more and more time with her. And once he earned his warrior name, he also found he earned her respect. It soon became obvious that the two were destined to be mates. One day, a terrible storm struck RiverClan. It destroyed the camp and falling tree branches and flood killed and injured many warriors. Mudfur and Brightsky worked together to help rebuild the camp, and Mudfur was won over by her dedication and kindness. Yep, there was no doubt that he was in love. Mudfur soon earned his name as the clan hero when a young kit fell from the stepping stones into the river. The kit was drowning, and Mudfur leaped into the water to save him, dragging the little kit from the forceful current. He carried Stormkit back to camp so that Brambleberry, the medicine cat, could check him out. Mudfur was a hero. Soon after that, Brightsky announced that she was expecting Mudfur's kits. He doted on her all pregnancy long, but the stars weren't in her favor. Sickness during pregnancy made the birthing rough. Three of the kits died, and only little Leopardkit survived. Mudfur was sickened. How could StarClan have taken away the last thing he really loved? His entire family, save Leopardkit, was gone. At Brightsky's vigil, he refused to allow other warriors near her and nestled the three kits near their mother's belly. Mudfur was angry, and it showed. When RiverClan threatened ThunderClan with a battle over Sunningrocks, Mudfur appeared and put a stop to it. He called for a one-on-one battle against Adderfang: the winner would take the Sunningrocks. He battled with a ferocity his clanmates had never seen in him before, and he won. But he wasn't seen as a hero. Crookedjaw and Hailstar were angry that RiverClan had stood by and watched, and they accused the clan of cowardice. Mudfur felt sick. This wasn't what he wanted at all. As Brambleberry healed his wounds, the tom made a decision. He announced to the clan that he was no longer interested in fighting. He had unsheathed his claws too many times, and he would not do it again. He wanted to heal, not hurt. He wanted to become Brambleberry's apprentice. medicine cat apprenticehood Now that Mudfur was committed to a drama-free life, his medicine cat apprenticehood passed with few horrifying events. Most of his family was dead, and he didn't want to risk becoming close to anyone else. He couldn't take a mate now, and he didn't have very many close friends, but he respected everyone and was respected in return. Now that he wasn't fighting, he was able to focus on being a father to Leopardpaw and a good son to his aging parents. As a medicine cat apprentice, he was able to treat the small scrapes Leopardpaw sustained in training and he was there to give Littlepool pain medication for her failing leg. He could still lose his family, and eventually he did lose his parents, but it felt better being able to help them feel calm and painless in their final days rather than standing by helplessly. Soon, he loved his job. And he was good at it, too. There wasn't much Mudfur wasn't good at. Some cats are just blessed that way. And he did see it as a blessing, because as he progressed through his training, he gained back his faith in StarClan. Of course, it still took him many season to master the art of healing, and even more seasons after that for him to become full medicine cat. medicine cat life It was a bittersweet day for Mudfur when Brambleberry died. On one paw, he could gain full esteem in the eyes of his clan as medicine cat. Brambleberry was in StarClan with her warrior ancestors, a place she had longed to be in her final days. On the other paw, he had lost a great friend and mentor. And the sole responsibility of the clan's health rested on him. He fit the role well. He was never a cat who let pressure get to him, and he saved many lives. He also watched his daughter Leopardfur thrive as a warrior and eventually become deputy and then leader. He was always confident in his ability to heal cats alone, and he never sought out an apprentice. Even after the harshest battles, Mudfur could heal up wounds of the injured or cease the pain of the fatally injured with ease. But of course the war changed all that. Battles are more intense and more frequent, and when Spottedleaf died, he began to consider an apprentice. Crookedstar had been pushing for him to get an apprentice for moons. He was older than most medicine cats were at the time of their mentors' death, so he needed an apprentice sooner, Crookedstar reasoned, but Mudfur never listened to him. But when he saw ThunderClan without a medicine cat, Mudfur began to reconsider. When Graystripe brought Silverstream's kits to the clan, Mudfur knew right away that Featherkit had the potential to be a good medicine cat apprentice. He saw something in her eyes, maybe a sign from StarClan, that told him to keep an eye on her. But she wasn't interested in being his apprentice, so Mudfur let it go. Later, though, little Featherpaw saw a cat die in camp, and it changed her. The medicine cat that Mudfur saw in her came out, and she realized that it was her destiny to train with him. And its good that he has her, too, because honestly, he's getting too old to do this job alone. OTHER INFORMATON anything else missed in the application that you would like to mention? if not, leave this blank. RP SAMPLE Mudfur sighed as he nosed through the herbs. Where in StarClan's name was the fennel? He remembered gathering it up just the other day at the river, bunching up the stalks and... He had brought them into the den, hadn't he? Only two days ago, he'd forgotten a pile of coltsfoot in the sun outside his den, and for some reason, Featherpaw hadn't felt the need to tell him it was drying out there... Oh, had he remembered to bring in the fennel? He had! He knew it, even if it came to him a bit late. He could remember the spikes poking into his mouth as he nosed through the other den in his herbs, so he had, indeed, brought them here. So, where were they? "Featherpaw!" he called out, summoning his apprentice. He had developed a real fondness for her over the past moons, but it didn't stop him from riding her whenever he thought she had made a mistake. "Have the kits been playing in the herbs again? I thought I told you to keep them out of here!" His tongue was sharp, but he made sure that his gaze was soft. No need to overdue it--unless one of the kits had gotten sick from it, in which case, poor Featherpaw had a heavy lecture coming her way. The tom's tail swished impatiently as he awaited his answer, sure that this mistake could only be the work of his new apprentice. She had a long way to go before she would be ready to earn her full medicine cat name. ETCETERA OTHER CATS, |
