HISTORY Kit-Hood |
The tortoiseshell was heavily pregnant when the clan was driven out of the forest by Shadowclan, forced to hide out in dingy, stinking caves and eat anything they could get their paws on, including crow-food.
The exile from their own land stretched on for what seemed like forever. An entire season passed, enough time for good cats to die from starvation and sickness, enough time for Morningflower the queen to give birth to her children. Runningfire was probably still lying cold and dead on the wind-swept moorlands, having died protecting his mate and future kits from the Shadowclan menace. Morningflower was still grieving.
Her kits came, a litter of four, one any clan would be proud of. But she was sickly and starving. One kit was still-born, another two died shortly after their birth. But there was a little ginger and white tom, his father's spitting image, who was small but strong enough to live through the turbulent times until Thunderclan finally came for the lost clan. After a couple moons of living in the terrible conditions, they were saved and Gorsekit was carried back to Windclan between Windclan and Thunderclan cats alike.
Gorsekit only knew the place he was born through stories and the same stench that haunted his dreams, but he thrived back in the Windclan moorland and grew to be bigger and more powerful than many thought he would. Morningflower and the majority of Windclan showered him with affection, happy to have this ginger beacon of hope and seen as a good omen.
When Shadowclan dared to attack Windclan again, they were filled with intense hatred and renewed hope. The dark cats lost the battle and Windclan proved that they were able to stand as strong as ever.
Apprentice-ship[/u] It has been many moons since his coming to his new home, his true home, and Gorsepaw has been excelling in his training. Lean muscles filled in underneath his short, thick pelt and he is beginning to become just as good as the other apprentices, though he hasn't been training long at all.

"Aw come on, you guys! You can't be serious!..." The orange and white tom stood with a circle of his fellow - although older - apprentices, maw parted in expressions of protest. The three other toms grinned, eyes glittering with mischief. "Completely serious. It's not that hard."
[/color] one said in a tone that was used for speaking to kits. It made Gorsepaw narrow his eyes in a glare. "All you have to do is go into the medicine cat den and steal one of those leaves. Easy!" the obvious leader of the bunch explained for the third time, glancing around warily. It was obvious the group was becoming impatient, someone might catch them in their game of trouble.
The ginger tom shrunk back in hesitation. If Barkface was to catch him in the act of herb thievery, he would be punished for sure! Probably be stuck picking fleas out of the elders pelts and cleaning stinking bedding...But if he refused to do it, he might as well grow a naked tale and buck teeth because he'd never hear the end of it from the clique. It's just one leaf. What harm will it do?
"Alright, I'll do it." Gorsepaw sniffed with a degree of pride, stretching to his full height which was the same if not a little shorter than the others. They didn't reply, only offered encouraging grins and exchanging a knowing look between themselves.
Stepping quickly into the darkness of the den, he was overwhelmed by the many scents of the various herbs so much in fact that he had to shake his head to try and clear it. How did Barkface stand it in here? Nevertheless, the apprentice went onward towards the back of the den, where he assumed the herbs were stored. He froze many times thinking he heard the sound of paw-steps approaching, ears pricked and holding his breath from the anxiety. The scent of Barkface blended and stood out at the same time amongst everything else and that too made his fur stand on end. What did I get myself into?
Finally, he made it to the collection of assorted herbs. He took a brief moment to admire the neatness of it all and immediately felt a twinge of guilt at knowing he was taking away something from his fellow clan-mate, something he had worked hard to get. But it was too late to turn back and he needed to get out of there fast.
Picking up a random leaf, he reeled back and almost spat it back out as the smell and taste swelled in his mouth. He had bitten down on the leaf accidentally and the juices seeped over his tongue. Gross! How do cats eat this stuff? he coughed and turned away from the herbs, anxious to get out and get this all over with.
But the moment he faced the entrance, he knew he was done for. Blue eyes went wide and he pressed himself against the floor in shame, yet managed to keep the herb in his jaws. "What do you think you're doing?"
