APPEARANCE
LINK
Jaymist is very pretty by most cats’ standards. Her short and sleek fur is a bluish shade of gray that is lighter toward her head but gets darker down her back, an affect that is only enhanced by the stripes that, too, get thicker as they move down her pelt. Her eyes are an stunning sky blue that bring out the blue tinge to her coat but also give her a more feminine and soft appearance.

PERSONALITY
Jaymist has many good qualities in her nature. First and foremost she is a SWEETHEART. She has a huge sensitive side and her compassion for others made her consider being a medicine cat apprentice at one point in her life, although, of course, that didn’t play out. It can be difficult for her to go into battle with the intention of hurting some other cat, but she KNOWS HOW TO GET THE JOB DONE as a warrior. Once she sees her family and friends being attacked in battle, she can easily put aside her compassion to fight. Although she never fights to kill, she usually at least succeeds in scaring her enemies off. She also has value as a warrior because she makes an excellent hunter and fisher, mostly because she is extremely PATIENT. She doesn’t mind waiting to catch the big fish or having to explain a fighting technique sixteen times before the apprentice catches on. Good things come to cats who wait, she likes to say. She is also INSANELY STEALTHY, mostly by accident. She treads lightly on her paws and often approaches unseen and unheard just because she is small and quiet. This is more a physical trait that just results from UNIMPOSING nature. She’s not the kind of cat to forcefeed anyone anything. Literally and figuratively. She accepts everyone’s differences without judgment, for the most part, and doesn’t believe that every cat should be the same as she is. She’s more tolerable of other clans and even non-clan ways of living than most RiverClan cats.
With the good comes the bad, of course. She has a problematic LACK OF SELF-CONFIDENCE, as she always second guesses herself and makes apologies, especially with older warriors and cats that she views as “more important” than her. She has to work very hard to keep her confidence up (meaning, she needs lots of compliments) and one small mistake can make her very nervous. She can also be OVER-EMOTIONAL, and letting your feelings get the best of you is not a particularly helpful trait in the warriors world. Her heart usually wins out over her head and she can get so caught up in her own emotions that she forgets about things like rationality and logic. She doesn’t realize that the heart can lead you astray. She is also very COMPLIANT and can seem easily swayed at times, particularly among a group of cats as obstinate as RiverClan. She’s also a DREAMER who allows her imagination to sometimes get in the way of her duty to the clan. For example, sometimes she gets so caught up in daydreaming on a hunt that she comes back with empty paws because she completely forgot to hunt.

HISTORY
Jaykit was born in Willowberry and Shadethorn’s first litter. She had one sister, Poppykit, and a one brother, Rowankit. The three were pretty close as a litter, although Jaykit was always somewhat on the outskirts because she was quiet and the oddball non-ginger kit. In playing, she was never as aggressive as her siblings and she rarely won games, but she still considered her siblings her best friends.
As they grew older, it became clear to Mudfur that Jaykit would make the perfect medicine cat apprentice. She was very caring and didn’t seem to have the confidence or physical capability that a warrior needed. She was interested in helping him out, too, or at least she thought she was. She would often dream about how good it would be to help save lives, and she would frequently go to Mudfur and ask him about his duties.
When her siblings became apprentices, Crookedstar made Jaypaw a medicine cat apprentice. But it didn’t last long. She soon learned that looking at open wounds and twisted paws and blood made her queasy and the smell of the herbs on top of those gruesome sights did her in. When Mudfur realized he was treating Jaypaw for nausea more often than he was treating the real injuries of the clan, he had a serious talk with the young apprentice. Together, they decided that medicine cat life was not for her.
So at about 8 moons old, Jaypaw was apprenticed to a warrior. She was already behind her siblings in training and had a long way to go to catch up. Luckily for her, she was naturally patient and didn’t get frustrated when training didn’t go as quickly as she hoped. Being a warrior was something that did not come naturally to her and she had to work twice as hard as all the other apprentices. If it hadn’t been for the support of her siblings and her parents, she might have thought that all the effort was not worth it. After all, it’d be easier for her to go live as a loner or try and get taken in as a kittypet. But she stuck it out and, thankfully, in this case, slow and steady really did win the race. She was an old apprentice at sixteen moons and had become somewhat of a joke among the other six moon old ‘paws before she was finally deemed worthy of her warrior name.
Jayflower seemed, at first, an obvious choice for her name because she didn’t have very much going for her other than her femininity but during her final assessment, when Jaypaw accidentally launched a sneak attack on a ThunderClan apprentice who had unknowingly crossed the border, Crookedstar was inspired with another name for her: Jaymist. It was still feminine like ‘flower’ but hinted at her stealth and, since mist is water, reflected her status as a RiverClan cat. So Jaypaw became Jaymist. The she-cat was simply relieved that she had become a warrior before her newest siblings, Cedarkit and Nettlekit, became apprentices.
As a warrior, Jaymist never forgot to check on Mudfur and keep him company. She preferred him to her “real” mentor, even if the smell of his den and the sight of his patients made her sick.
For a while, she was looked over as a warrior. She wasn’t the most aggressive or the best hunter or the best fighter, so she always seemed kind of out of place, never destined to shine. But then, the war came.
When ThunderClan first attacked RiverClan for the Sunningrocks that Newleaf, Jaymist found herself in on the action. She was one of the cats who saw the fight break out and she ran back to camp to tell Crookedstar about it. Her speed and reliability impressed her leader so much that a couple of days after the battle she was given an apprentice of her own. Yarrowpaw was flighty and eager to prove herself, but Jaymist did a good job of mentoring her because she allowed the apprentice to make her own mistakes and wasn’t bossy or controlling.
She was one of the few cats who didn’t hate the idea of an alliance with ShadowClan. She doesn’t think it’s a good idea for the clans to be at war, but she does understand that ShadowClan has little prey and needs to eat. If RiverClan is well fed, why not share their extra food with the hungry? Crookedstar mistook this kind of thinking for simple loyalty to WindClan and he became very close to Jaymist, since he found that he could trust her. As he got to know the warrior better, he was better able to use her strengths. Jaymist would often be sent to do extra patrols of the border alone, since no cat would ever spy her coming, and she would help guard the camp when other warriors left to battle ThunderClan or WindClan. When Yarrowpaw became Yarrowstripe, Jaymist was given another unruly apprentice who she again helped to “straighten out” through her simple hands-off mentoring style.
In her own way, Jaymist has become very useful to the Clan.
