Canon characters are typically expected to be as close to book characters as possible. Here, we hold that rule for many of our canons. However, because Life Without Fire is an alternate universe (au) roleplay, many of the canon characters have lead non-canon lives. Cats like Sandstorm, Graystripe, Tigerstar, and Brokenstar, whose lives in the canon books are directly affected by Fireheart, have led distinctly different lives here on the site. Even cats who never met Fireheart in the books have been altered by certain events, such as Brokenstar's perpetuated leadership and Tigerstar's command of ThunderClan. While canon characters should certainly reflect their original selves, keep in mind that our universe has altered canons' past in ways that might affect how they behave and what they will accomplish. |

We keep an updated list of available canons on the creation board, and members are free to apply for any of them. Filling out an application is basically like filling out a bio form for an original character, except that admins are looking for more accuracy. While we can help you hammer out the finer details of the character's history, we recommend you reread some parts of the earlier books (Into the Wild through The Darkest Hour) to brush up on how the character talks, acts, feels, etc. We usually will grant the canon character to the first person who accurately portrays the character as they should exist in our alternate universe. There is currently no limit on the amount of canon characters a person may have. This is subject to change. |

Canons lives do not need to proceed exactly as they did in the books. However, this universe isn't all that different from the original one, and some things you may wish to keep as "canon". Apprentice/Mentor If you roleplay an apprentice or a canon who mentored a particular cat in the books, you may wish for that pairing to occur on the site as well. That's a fine idea, and in many cases, we will match apprentices and mentors up in canon pairings. However, it's difficult to keep track of these specific pairs on top of everything else it takes to run a site, so please just leave the admins a note if you'd like a canon mentor/apprentice. Please note that sometimes we can't do this, simply because a character hasn't been claimed, is already a mentor, etc. Canon Couples If you roleplay a character who is part of a canon couple in the books, you are not obliged to form a relationship with that character on the site. While you can't change a character's past if they've already had kits, you do not need to remain with the father/mother of the kits in the future and are more than welcome to mate with other canons or original characters. However, if you want to form a canon couple and the other character's roleplayer agrees, you are more than welcome. In these cases, if the canon couple had kits in the books, you have the option of having either a canon litter or an original litter. For example, if you roleplay Tawnypelt and you mate with Rowanclaw, you can have a litter of Dawnkit, Tigerkit, and Flamekit (all canons), or you can have a litter of all original characters. Important! Canon females with unknown mates are free to mate with any character (canon or original) and have a canon litter. Death, Illness, and Injury Because of the different turn of events, many injuries (such as Cinderpaw's crippling accident with a monster) did not or will not occur on the site, especially those that resulted from Tigerclaw's traps. In the same way, the alternate universe has affected many diseases and deaths, so your cat does not have to meet the same demise they found in the books. Sure, some accidents can be plotted out to reflect the canon, but in many cases, the future has changed. Cats are more likely to die in battle now than by a dog attack or being hit by a monster. Embrace the change. After all, this is what happens in a life without fire. |
